Stansted Airport Border Inspection Post

The BIP handles livestock and products. Open 24 hours a day

Prescribed Route from Airside to the BIP

All vehicles carrying animals from the cargo area to the BIP must follow the prescribed route in BIP MAP. If a vehicle has to travel landside from the cargo terminal to the BIP it must be authorised to do so. A plan showing the security gate in the cargo terminal and location of the Border Inspection Post is included in BIP MAP. There is a dispensation under the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 for untaxed vehicles owned by most ground handling agents. It is the operator’s responsibility to ensure that they have dispensation. All persons leaving the airside controlled area via Gate VP1 must be authorised to do so.

Offloading at the BIP

Palletised Containers

Animals in containers that are being transported on an aircraft pallet or ULD must be transported to the BIP on a two position roller-bed vehicle with rear end loading.

Animal containers, unless being cleaned at the BIP, must be removed from the BIP immediately after the animals have been offloaded from their containers.

Charter Aircraft

Charter aircraft will park on the taxiway in front of the BIP and animals offloaded directly into the BIP. In the case of a ‘walk on, walk off’ system, animals will disembark via a loading ramp and walk into the BIP for inspection. A portable gate system will be assembled to ensure the livestock is secure whilst walking between the aircraft and the BIP.

In the case of palletised cargo on charter aircraft, they will be offloaded using a hi-loader.

Operation of Equipment

Equipment contained within the BIP may only be operated by BIP staff.
